Loose Women’s Denise Welch has been forced to up sticks and relocate after a stalker emotionally terrorised her.
The 65 year old TV regular unveiled that she and her husband, Lincoln Townley, have shifted locales following her stalker’s incarceration for setting fire to her abode. Toraq Wyngard, 56, received a sentence totalling seven years and seven months after igniting a skip on their driveway that consequently ignited Denise’s garage in September 2020.
Denise happened to be indoors when this incident took place and was alerted by a passer-by. And now, the former Corrie actress has confirmed that she’s moved on from her previous residence in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
In a tweet to her broadband provider, Denise expressed her dissatisfaction with service still seemingly active at her old address. She griped: “For 2 weeks I’ve tried via your system to cancel my service, every time it says someone will contact me. They haven’t. I don’t want to pay for a service I no longer need as we’ve moved.”.
On an episode of Loose Women, two years post Toraq’s sentencing at Chester Crown Court, Denise recounted the harrowing ordeal. She relayed to her fellow panellists the initial moment of realisation when her husband let out a “piercing scream” upon answering a knock at the door.
Denise opened up about the terrifying moment she thought her house was going to burn down, recalling the chilling scream that alerted her to the danger. Speaking of the incident, she said: “You know that scream from someone that you don’t want to hear? I ran downstairs and the boys were all outside. We had a skip in the drive and it was full of wood and very flammable stuff. It was ablaze and it was trying to catch on to the trees.
“There was lady at the door who I didn’t know saying, ‘I hope it’s alright I knocked on your door’. I thought, ‘My God, you’ve potentially saved our lives here’. Lincoln jumped into my car, drove it out and, at which point, the flames came through the side of the skip. They would have caught the car. It emotionally terrorises you. Lincoln and I have to be apart for work reasons and I had never, ever been scared. It has completely changed that.”
The court heard that the fire caused a whopping £4,285 worth of damage to Denise and husband Lincoln’s plush £800,000 pad. The stalker was also nabbed by the cops who found a kitchen knife in his backpack.
He owned up to stalking, causing serious alarm or distress, between September 18, 2020 and February 11, 2021, and also admitted to having a knife, criminal damage, and arson. He’s now facing seven years and seven months in the prison.
