It’s been a whirlwind of emotions on Love Island this week, with fans left in shock as both Scott Thomas and Ron Hall decided to walk away from the ITV2 reality show within just 24 hours. A body language expert has now revealed insights into the sudden departures, based on their actions in the villa.
In an emotional moment during Sunday’s episode, Scott opened up to his fellow islanders about his decision to exit, explaining to Tina Innes that he didn’t feel a romantic spark. “I don’t want this to be sad because I’ve had the best time ever, but I’ve made the decision to leave and I think it’s the right time. I don’t want everyone to be sad, I’m in a good place about it,” he shared.
Hot on his heels, Ron also said his goodbyes the next day, citing his lack of a meaningful connection with any of the contestants as his reason for leaving. “My time is done… I think, not having a couple, not having, like that strong connection with anyone, I’m a very logical person,” he explained. “It’s like, what chance is that right person gonna walk through the door… I want to leave on a happy note.”

In a revealing chat with Paddy Power Games, body language expert Judi James has disclosed some intriguing observations about Ron ahead of his Love Island exit. She explained, “One of Ron’s last body language poses was a pit-bare where he stood in front of the guys with his hands on his head and his elbows splayed to bare his armpit. This ‘unfurling’ gesture suggested he needed to get back to real life to re-boot his status and his brand.”
She continued: “The big body language clue to Ron’s decision came when we saw him gazing at himself in the mirror. This isn’t unusual in narcissistic culture, but Ron wasn’t preening or admiring his reflection, his more static pose suggested quiet reflection. He seemed to be putting himself back into the context of real life and maybe confirming that a showmance with Danielle would not sit well with who he really is. His gamble had to be showmance or a cosmically ordered bombshell. His brand was being eroded, when he must have expected to return to the show like a highly desirable star,” reports the Mirror.
For 36 year old Scott, Judi remarked that he appeared to feel “like the dad at a kid’s party” amongst the islanders. Detailing his status concerns she added, “He was haemorrhaging status and, in his eyes, possibly dignity. His ‘little bro’ in there, Luca, had squared up to him physically and although the pair made it up, Luca’s enhanced status thanks to being voted the most popular boy and his relationship with Grace ended with him calling Scott ‘Son’.”

“This robbed Scott of his status in the villa and the soreness of this showed when he told Luca he was now in charge of the group as he made his exit, like an older alpha making way for the younger one.”
She continued: “When Scott also got loudly lambasted by Elma (who had also been voted most popular girl), he must have known his time in the villa was up if he wanted to retain any shreds of his dignity. Given the choice of showmance with Tina or all the histrionics of re-coupling with a new bombshell he had little choice but to quit.”
Judi also cautioned that the two sudden exits could “threaten the show format altogether”. She explained: “One boy leaving is an excuse to bring in a new bombshell, two going in quick succession could create a virus response that begins to threaten the show format altogether. Both boys had beautiful girls giving them signals that they were happy to create a romantic storyline, but both guys appeared to find honesty a preferable option.”
