Luke Humphries sent hilarious message as PDC rival ‘takes out frustration’ on golf course

Damon Heta, rival pro darts player in the PDC, has good-humouredly suggested that Luke Humphries should “take a gap year” following his recent World Masters victory. This triumph is just another feather in the cap for 29-year-old Humphries, who has now captured seven major titles in only two years, and is almost £800k clear of Luke Littler as world No 1.

Despite an unexpected departure from Ally Pally at the hands of Peter Wright, Humphries’ sway in the darts world remains undiminished. Last week he effortlessly dispatched a lineup including Joe Cullen, Josh Rock, Danny Noppert, and Jonny Clayton to clinch his inaugural World Masters title – at times hardly needing to kick into high gear.

Now, Aussie darting ace Heta, whom Humphries overcame in Milton Keynes, half-seriously vented his exasperation on the golf green while throwing a cheeky challenge to Humphries. Under the moniker The Heat, Heta shared a snapshot on social media platform X on Monday afternoon that showed him, apparently at a golf course, waving a ball featuring a doctored image of Humphries’ face, captioned: “Taking out some frustration on my new golf balls. Well done @lukeh180 on the win but I think it’s time you have a gap year and go and enjoy your winnings.”

Although Littler often grabs the darting limelight, Humphries is performing at an extraordinary level rarely seen before, with his bank balance being all the better for it – sitting plush with just over £1.9million in ranking prize money according to the PDC Order of Merit.

Amid jovial calls for Humphries to enjoy his impressive earnings, the darts player known as ‘Cool Hand’ is on the cusp of surpassing the once out-of-reach £2 million mark in career winnings. If he clinches victory at the UK Open, with its handsome £110k top prize, he’ll achieve that milestone, reports the Express.

Acknowledging this prospect, Humphries light-heartedly remarked to Sports Boom: “I better win the UK Open now, hadn’t I,” while also expressing a relaxed attitude towards setting financial records. He mused: “It obviously would be really nice to do that. It’s not like a goal that you’re looking at and thinking I need to do that.”

And indeed, Humphries recognizes the ever-increasing prizes in store within the darting world when he added, “The prize money in the world of darts is just going to go up and up over the next few years. Soon it will be a common thing, so someone is going to reach £2million whether I do it or not. But I’d like to be the first one to do it.”
