MAFS Australia groom’s acting career uncovered – and he doesn’t want fans to know

Married at First Sight Australia groom Ryan Donnelly’s secret acting career has been revealed during his stint on the hit dating show.

The reality star, who is currently appearing on the 12th season of the match making experiment, has starred in a Hollywood movie and an iconic TV series.

Ryan was spotted on the streets of Sydney just last month as he filmed for a new blockbuster alongside Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien.

When Ryan was revealed to be joining MAFS in September 2024, he reportedly deactivated his accounts on casting call sites StarNow and TheRightFit.

However, some eagle-eyed fans have found old Instagram pictures of his past acting antics. In one of the snaps, Ryan can be seen dressed up as a police officer, after reportedly appearing in episodes of Neighbours and NCIS: Sydney.

He’s also appeared on another reality show before MAFS. While watching an old episode of Ashton Kutcher’s hit social experiment, Beauty and the Geek, some viewers spotted the current groom.

“Do I need glasses or is that Ryan?” one person said on TikTok, with another confirming: “Yes, he is an actor.”

A third fan added: “Oh I have HEARD they’ve been recycling actors on these shows.”

On this year’s MAFS, 36-year-old Ryan was matched with confident consultant Jacqui, aged 29, who was hoping to find her “perfect match”.

Jacqui, who described herself as having “beauty and the brains”, was disappointed with project manager Ryan, after he didn’t meet her high standards.

She said that she wasn’t happy with his hair colour, his choice of dog and the fact that he hadn’t shaved – which she described as a “turn off”.

Jacqui also thought that Ryan had “rehearsed” his wedding vows, and was left in tears when her groom “failed to take the lead” when they walked back down the aisle.

Things went from bad to worse when self-confessed “warrior” Ryan dropped his bride during their first dance. While the guests found the moment funny, Ryan urged producers not to air the footage, saying: “I’m not thinking of myself, I’m thinking of her.”

The difficulties continued when the couple moved into their shared apartment this week, with Jacqui sharing her frustrations about her husband’s lack of cleanliness. Will Jacqui and Ryan be able to make things work?

Married at First Sight Australia airs Monday to Thursday on E4 at 7.30pm
