MAFS’ Peggy Rose’s baby woes: ‘I don’t even know if I can get pregnant – but I will become a mum’

Married At First Sight star Peggy Rose had a difficult time after appearing on the show last November, with Georges Berthonneau. Having gone public with their exciting plans to move in together, things went downhill between the two amidst accusations of cheating, and the couple split – calling time on their relationship back in February.

Now Peggy Rose, who was speaking to OK! at the launch of 2023 Apprentice winner Marnie Swindell‘s newly-refurbished Bronx Boxing gym in London, has opened up exclusively about her future – including her determination to become a mum – whatever it takes to get there.

How are things, you’ve had quite a rollercoaster in recent months…

Everything happens for a reason. A lot of the time you don’t realise what a rut you’re in with someone, or what you deserve and need – until that negativity is out of your life. I don’t want to speak badly of Georges, but I don’t want to speak to him again. That door is well and truly closed. It’s onwards and upwards, now. I’m concentrating on positivity, friends and family and the things that make me happy.

Looking back, how would you describe your MAFS experience?

I can’t explain how much I loved it. Best thing I’ve ever done! Even the lows were worth it. I’m not going to go into past relationships, but I look at it as a huge learning curve. That’s life, I have no regrets. Everyone has their ups and downs – ours were just publicised!

Have you learned any big lessons about love?

Trust your instincts. Don’t change yourself to please somebody else. Remember what you need, as well as the other person – rather than giving yourself completely to someone else and maybe losing yourself a little in the process.

Are you more cautious about dating now?

I was cautious before doing MAFS – I’m even more cautious now, and I find it even harder to trust men! I am scared to date now. But the right man will come at the right time – I’m manifesting the man of my dreams! But at the same time, I don’t regret a thing. I wouldn’t have changed my partner, even. It’s allowed me to follow my passion now, which is a career in fashion.

Have you gone on any dates since splitting from Georges?

No, and I’m not on the apps – they scare the life out of me! I’m such a home body. Being known from the show will definitely make it harder – people who’ve seen me on TV will think they know me, or judge me – even if they don’t, they’ve only seen the edited version. And I’ll know nothing about them! I’m still looking for love, though, always have been. I’ve had a lot of guys message me on Instagram but it’s scary now because you’re in the public eye.

You two had talked about starting a family – how do you feel about having babies now?

I’m not sure if I can have children. I used to suffer with anxiety – I get stressed and I’m a very anxious person. I basically haven’t had a menstrual cycle in five years now. They’re calling it secondary hypothalamic amenorrhea, which is all related to stress. But yeah, I want to find someone that wants kids too and helps me to have them – it’s going to be a big process, I’ll probably need IVF, and that’s quite scary. I got this news a couple of months ago and yeah, I’m so gutted.

And how do you deal with your anxiety?

I practise yoga, I do meditation. I have a journal, which I write in, multiple times a day. I’ve got a mood board, a vision board… I’m very superstitious – they call me Psychic Peg! But I do get a bit of burnt out because I try to please everyone else. I’m the baby of the family, too – I do want to move out, but I feel responsible for looking after my parents. Until I meet the right person. When I do meet that person, hopefully I’ll feel less anxious, my body will relax and hopefully I’ll be able to conceive naturally. If not, I’m happy to try IVF or even adopt. But I know I will be a mum, 100 percent – and I can’t wait.
