Acklington is the least used train station in the North East and one of the quietest in the country.
There were just 550 passenger entries and exits at the station between April 2023 and March 2024 according to the latest statistics for the Office for Rail and Road.
That’s up slightly from 434 a year earlier, and works out as just 1.5 passengers a day on average.
It makes Acklington the quietest station in the North East, and the 27th quietest in Great Britain.
Acklington still has 10 times as many visits as Britain’s quietest train station though.
There were just 54 passenger entries and exits at Denton in Greater Manchester, which was fewer than in any other station in Great Britain. Shippea Hill in Cambridgeshire had 70, Ince and Elton in Cheshire had 86, and Polesworth in Warwickshire had 118.
Chathill was the next quietest station in the North East with 1,264 passenger entries and exits.
Pegswood, meanwhile had 1,500, Widdrington had 2,270 and Bardon Mill had 10,736.

Rail usage has increased in the North East.
There were a total of 19.6 million entries and exits at stations in the region between April 2023 and March 2024. That’s up from 17.7 million a year earlier.
Newcastle is the busiest train station in the North East of England. There were 9.1 million passenger entries and exits at the station between April 2023 and March 2024.
That’s up from 8.4 million a year earlier and puts the station in 51st place in Britain. Last year though, Newcastle was the 46th busiest station in the country. Durham was the North East’s next busiest station with 2.6 million passengers passing through its turnstiles.
Darlington is next with 2.3 million, followed by Berwick-Upon-Tweed with 629,944, Hartlepool with 626,976 and Sunderland with 598,916.
London Liverpool Street is Great Britain’s busiest train station for the second year in a row. A total of 94.5 million passenger entries and exits were made from the station between April 2023 and March 2024.
The station was named the top one in the country for the first time last year following a boom in numbers from Crossrail.
London Paddington was the next busiest in the country with 66.9 million entries and exits, followed by Tottenham Court Road with 64.2 million, Waterloo with 62.5 million, and Stratford London with 56.6 million.
Birmingham New Street was the busiest station outside of the capital, with 33.3 million entries and exits. Manchester Piccadilly was next with 25.8 million, followed by Glasgow Central with 25.0 million and Leeds with 24.9 million.
