Meet the dogs that found their forever homes in 2024 after a lonely stay in kennels.
Some of these dogs spent over a year waiting to find loving owners to give them the life they deserved.
During their time at Darlington Dogs Trust they have become almost like family to the staff who work all year round to care for them. So it can be a bittersweet moment for staff when dogs do go off to their new home.
But knowing that they’re off to start a new life in a loving home feels hugely rewarding for the team.
There was a particularly triumphant moment for the charity this year when 13-year-old Digger was adopted by a family after a total of 2,791 days in kennels. Most of this time was spent at Dogs Trust in Darlington, where he became a firm favourite with staff.
Sadly, not every dog will be in such a happy place this New Year. And, through no fault of their own, the charity sees many dogs lose their happy place at this time of year.
With the aim to ensure every dog has a happy place to stay, Dogs Trust also works to help dogs that already have a loving family stay with them, as well as those looking for a forever home.
Through the charity’s Behaviour Support Line, Dog School, and range of online resources, it’s here to help keep dogs and their homes peaceful, safe and happy – at Christmas and beyond.
After being adopted from Dogs Trust Darlington in 2024, all of these beautiful dogs have now found their happy place and will enjoy this festive season in a home. Some of the dogs adopted were known as ‘underdogs’, which is the term given to a dog that has spent more than six months in Dogs Trust’s care.
