A stand-out beer festival being planned in Newcastle will add an international flavour to the summer with a showcase of beers from around the world.
Wylam Brewery in Exhibition Park has announced its biggest ever festival – calling it ‘more than a festival’ – to celebrate its 25-year anniversary and it is promising ‘a day to remember’. Tickets are already on sale for the big day, which will be June 21, with the party extending into evening.
Reaching the silver milestone will be a huge occasion and helping the brewery to celebrate in style will be local band Smoove & Turrell and a variety of winners of its popular Street Food Battle events. On that all-important drinks programme will be the ‘finest’ beers from international breweries – 25 of them, to match each one of Wylam’s years in business.
The action will take place under the dome of the beautiful Palace of Arts, where the brewery is housed, where live music will play out in the Grand Hall. Beer lovers have a pick of a day session, running from 11am until 5pm; an evening session from 6pm to midnight or there’s an all-day ticket for those with stamina to stay the course.
The day session will offer a first taste of those worldwide beers then the evening session will fully embrace the transformation of the Palace of Arts – the Grade ll-listed, last surviving building from the city‘s 1929 North East Coast Exhibition – since Wylam moved in. As as well as a home of top brews and host of the popular Food Battles, the venue is now a hub for art and entertainment – with the likes of sold-out shows by Craig Charles and Pete Doherty being on this March’s bill – and during the festival there will be live music playing all day.
Gateshead favourites Smoove & Turrell will take to its Grand Hall stage to host the festival’s evening session which will feature a range of acts, setting the scene for a night of dancing. In a message to customers, Wylam Brewery said: “Get ready for the biggest party we’ve ever thrown.”
It added: “This is more than just a festival – it’s a day to remember!” For tickets to its special event – called 25 Years of Wylam: International Beer Festival – see here. There are currently day session tickets on sale for £18.50 while some first release tickets are still available for the evening session for £24. An all-day ticket is £46.
