Newcastle Carabao Cup fan zone to include Festival of Guinness in back and white Times Square takeover

A sea of green will be transformed into an ocean of black and white when Newcastle’s annual Paddy Fest event hosts a giant fan zone for the Carabao Cup final.

The March festival built around the St Patrick’s Day celebrations is this time adding to the fun with a takeover of its marquee in Times Square on March 16 for the eagerly-awaited match. And now – with tickets for that all snapped up – it has been announced that Paddy Fest will incorporate a Festival of Guinness too, adding to the black and white theme and kicking off the Caraboa party mood early.

The Festival of Guinness will take place on March 15, offering Magpies an extra opportunity to raise a glass to Newcastle United ahead of the team taking on Liverpool at Wembley. As previously reported, tickets for the 5,000-capacity fan zone proved a fast sell-out, with eager fans set to pack out the marquee in the square for the live screening of the all-important match, so this new addition to the March 13-17 Paddy Fest programme means that those who missed out on a fan zone place now have another opportunity to share in the wider atmosphere in the build-up to the big day.

The event dedicated to the iconic Irish stout will feature – alongside those servings of Guinness – a challenge called ‘split the G’, which involves taking a first drink of a pint that leaves the remaining beer line between the top of the G and the bottom of the harp on the branded glass.

Other themed drinks, alongside and street food, will be on offer during the festival while entertainment will include live music, DJs and classic Irish anthems. And those St Patrick’s Day Guinness hats will be out in force.

March 15 is also the day of Six Nations games and this Super Saturday selection will be shown on the big screen. Mike Hesketh, one of the directors of event organiser EVNT Inspirations, says the whole five-day programme is shaping up make this year’s Paddy Fest “one of the most memorable” the city has ever seen.

He said: “We’ve got an amazing line-up of entertainment and experiences and now being able to add the Festival of Guinness into the mix is something else to look forward to.” For the full programme and ticket details for each day see here.
