Newcastle city centre bar has celebs flocking as United icon and BBC star spotted

It hasn’t been open a year yet, but a Newcastle bar is earning itself a bit of a reputation for being a celebrity haunt, with a Newcastle United icon and a much talked about BBC drama star being snapped there in the last few weeks alone.

There was a lot of excitement surrounding the launch of Katie O’Brien’s in May 2023, with the Irish venue proving to be a real hit with Geordies ad visitors to the city from the get-go, being packed out on NUFC match days, for Christmas nights out, New Year and after big local events like Plate Day and Ladies Day.

And it’s also now become a calling out for some famous clientele. Right after his exit from hit BBC show Death in Paradise left fans gutted, ex Royle Family actor Ralf Little was at the Tyne Theatre in town to host his Two Pints live podcast show with Will Mellor, with a photo of him at Katie O’Briens appearing on social media.

Then, after basking in a 5-1 victory over Sheffield United at St James’ Park, having watched the game from the sidelines, Eddie Howe’s right hand man Jason Tindall headed to Katie’s on Saturday. Let’s hope a certain Status Quo song was played in his honour!

Several other celebs have also called in over the last few months and now the live music bar, which also has a venue in Durham, is bracing itself for a busy one this weekend, as many people enjoy an extra day off work for the early May Bank Holiday. Encouraging people to get themselves along to join in the fun in an Instagram post which read: “Ready for another weekend full of live music, great craic and your favourite pints? Make sure to head down to Katie’s for another class weekend”
