Newcastle singer hoping Sweet Caroline remix for Eddie Howe will be cup final terrace anthem

He first remixed the song two years ago, when the Magpies lost 2-0 to Manchester United and now well known Newcastle singer Junior Turner, as well as hoping for a different result in the final next week, is hoping his new 2025 version of Sweet Caroline, in honour of gaffer Eddie Howe is a real hit in the stands at Wembley.

A NUFC supporter all his life, Junior attracted a lot of attention a few years ago, having penned rousing and very moving original track Banks of the River Tyne, all about growing up on Tyneside, the amazing people and its proud passion for all things football. After it was heard by the Vera legend, actress Brenda Blethyn branded the song a ‘terrific anthem’ for the North East and, as well as the popularity of the song spawning a line of merchandise, its appeal has spread all over the world, as far away as Thailand, where people have even been singing it on karaoke.

Wallsend musician Junior also became a favourite of Newcastle fans in 2023 when he put his own spin on Tony Christie classic Is This The Way to Amarillo, ahead of the side’s Champions League campaign. Rebranding it as Is This The Way To Barcelona and name checking the likes of Bayern Munich, Lazio and Roma, Junior soon saw his song belted out by supporters and is hoping that We Love Eddie Howe 2025, to the tune of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline, will help get everyone even more hyped up for the league cup final clash against Liverpool on Sunday, March 16.

After seeing his beloved Magpies beat Arsenal 2-0 in the semi final first leg in London, Junior got the new version ready to almost as soon as the final whistle blew on their victory at St James’ Park by the same margin at the start of last month,. with it already doing big numbers on the likes of Spotify and YouTube.

Given that Sweet Caroline is already a huge footy anthem in its own right, Junior’s take on it has every chance of being belted out at Wembley next weekend and he is in cautiously optimistic mood when it comes to the score as well. “I was feeling very confident right up until Sunday, but even so, this season, Newcastle have proved that when they come up against the big teams, they really turn it on.

“Even after they lost to Liverpool in the league, there’s something in me that’s telling me that, this time, they’re going to do it. and it’s going to be one of those days where they sneak a 1-0. And, as well as being huge for the club, it would be massive for the city. Everybody wants this win. It would be amazing.”
