A Newcastle party bar is changing its usual opening hours to welcome fans on Sunday for this weekend’s Carabao Cup final, promising five big screens to watch the match on as well as entertainment before and after.
Formerly Illegitimate night club, The Points opened up on the Bigg Market in 2019 and has been a huge hit with both locals and visitors to Newcastle city centre, thanks to its welcoming atmosphere and roster of live music. Back in the summer of 2021, when some Covid social distancing rules were still in place, The Points was packed out for the delayed Euro 2020 final, with fans taking their seats at tables in their small groups, as England lost out to Italy in agonising fashion, after taking an early lead.
Many of its neighbours made their plans for Newcastle v Liverpool almost as soon as United secured their spot at Wembley with their 2-0 second leg win over Arsenal at St James’ Park at the start of February and now, with just a few days to go until the cup final, The Points has finally announced that it will break with tradition and open its doors for the game on Sunday.
Usually only open Friday and Saturday these days, The Points took to social media on Wednesday night to reveal it will be free entry on Sunday ahead of the 4.30pm kick off in London, with five screens to watch the match on and live entertainment pre and post match.
The Bigg Market is set to have a buzzing atmosphere for the match, with its next door neighbours Filthys and Passing Clouds also offering free entry, having proved very popular in the past with football fans, while just down the street, Louis’ Liquor Store has sold out all its tables for the game, The Old George is opening early at 10am, the Market Shaker will be packed out and Cosy Joes will be THE place to be if Eddie Howe’s men defeat the Premier League leaders.
