Newcastle United drop exciting right winger transfer hint

Eddie Howe has indicated that Newcastle United will target a right winger this summer.

Jacob Murphy has been in superb form, having been directly involved in 10 goals in his last 11 games in all competitions, but Newcastle no longer have a natural senior alternative out on the right after Miguel Almiron re-joined Atlanta United earlier this week. Joelinton and Anthony Gordon have filled in when required, but Howe was the first to admit there ‘was not a huge queue of players’ waiting in line to ease the burden on Murphy.

Although Newcastle look light, as a result, Howe reiterated that the club ‘needed’ to sell Almiron for PSR reasons. Newcastle are not planning on bringing in a replacement in the final days of the mid-season window, but the Magpies will be in a better position to act in the summer to address the one position that has not been strengthened since the takeover.

“Unless someone comes from the blind side and surprises us in that position, I’d imagine we would possibly look to sign someone in that position,” Howe told reporters. “I always say there are no guarantees with anything, but the natural feeling would be that we would need a replacement for Miggy eventually.”

Newcastle made a play for Michael Olise before the Frenchman joined Bayern Munich for £50.8m last summer, which not only illustrates the calibre of player that the black-and-whites have looked at, but, also, the competition the club face for genuine game-changers.
