Sven Botman

What we know: Botman has been sidelined since Newcastle’s win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg earlier this month after returning from a long-term injury. Reports last night claimed the defender would miss the cup final with surgery required on his other knee.

What Eddie Howe has said: “Sven was close, did light training [on Saturday], but didn’t feel 100% confident in his body, so we decided not to risk him [v Brighton].

“We still hope that he can play a part either in our next game or the game after. Desperate to get him back fit, such a big player, but again we couldn’t take a risk with him if he wasn’t 100% fit.”

Estimated return: Unknown.

Jamaal Lascelles

What we know: The defender is now in the final stages of his recovery from his ACL injury in March last year. He is back in training as he looks to build up his workload and he could return to the squad next month.

What Eddie Howe has said: “Jamaal is continuing to work… He has had setbacks, nothing major, but little moments that have knocked his recovery. He has been on the grass, training individually with the physios. He has not gone beyond that stage yet. We are probably looking towards the end of the season as a return date.”

Potential return date: May

Anthony Gordon – suspended

What we know: The Magpies winger will serve a three-match suspension with the first of those against West Ham on Monday night. Newcastle have chosen not to appeal the red card decision from the Brighton game, keeping Gordon out of the Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool and the clash with Brentford next month.

Potential return date: April 7th.
