Newcastle United learn extent of Lewis Hall injury scan ahead of Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall is expected to miss the Carabao Cup final after receiving the results of a scan.

With Anthony Gordon already set to be out for the showpiece at Wembley, Newcastle’s preparations for the clash with Liverpool have been hit with a major dent. Hall walked out of Anfield with little discomfort but felt something in the aftermath of the game and was referred to a specialist.

And Newcastle’s backroom team received the news they were dreading earlier today – when learning that Hall’s ankle damage would mean he is likely to miss their showpiece against the Reds on Sunday, March 16. Hall was not involved against Brighton & Hove Albion with head coach Eddie Howe commenting after the game: “It’s an ankle problem that Lewis picked up after the Liverpool game. He didn’t really recover well. He felt pain, so he had a scan and now he’s been to see a specialist.

“We’re awaiting further news. There’s no timescale on that at the moment.”

Hall’s injury is a real spanner in the works for Howe with concerns over Kieran Trippier (back) and Tino Livramento with the ex-Chelsea player suffering with cramp. It leaves Matt Targett on stand-by for the clash at West Ham and potentially Wembley with the former Aston Villa man now back in the frame.

Fears that Hall could be out for the season have emerged on social media, but the the left-back remains under assessment by club medics.
