Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says he will show Miguel Almiron the “respect he deserves” as long as he’s at St James’ Park.
The 30-year-old is one of the favourites to leave Newcastle this January and as Chronicle Live reported last night, talks between the club and Almiron’s representatives are active as far as a possible departure is concerned for the South American. Almiron has interest from MLS, South America and here in the Premier League.
But Howe had praise for the forward when asked about his mood and what will come next for the man he has afforded just 119 top-flight minutes to this term. It means the Christmas period could be the last hurrah for Almiron in a Newcastle shirt.
Howe told Chronicle Live: “Miggy is still Miggy in absolutely every way! And I mean that as a compliment. He’s smiley, happy and focused. He is professional and an unbelievable guy.
“I can’t praise him and his professionalism enough this season in what has been a difficult season for him because he has not had the minutes he would have wanted. He has never lacked that in what he has shown for us. Everything that he has delivered for us we know he is ready to play if needed.
“I think again the other night when he came on he showed his qualities. I have never doubted his qualities for a second. Yes, there has been a lot of speculation on his future for a while, and all I will say to any player who is contracted here and absolutely loved like Miggy is that my only focus is Miggy being here and showing him the respect he deserves for his contributions for Newcastle.”
His agent, Daniel Campos, said recently: “Although Miguel is not happy with the minutes he has in England, he wants to stay and fight for his place at Newcastle. The coach (Eddie Howe) always supported him. When he made a request, he asked him not to leave. It must be a tactical or temporary issue.”
