Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall missed the FA Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion due to a ankle injury.
It’s understood that Hall suffered the injury against the Reds at Anfield and experienced a reaction after the match. He was initially assessed by club doctors but has now been sent to see a specialist.
The 20-year-old’s absence in the weeks ahead would be a hammer blow for the Magpies and with the Carabao Cup final on the horizon he would be served Wembley heartache if there is a longer lay off. Ex-Chelsea star Hall has made 34 appearances this season and been a regular in Eddie Howe’s side.
Speaking about Hall’s progress in the last few days Howe told Chronicle Live: “I would probably say for us Lewis Hall is a left-back now. That’s not to say 100% I would not use him in any other position.
“I think he has the technical skills to play in other roles, but I think left-back is his best position for us. For any defender, you want continuity, and you want to know where you are playing.
“You want to be able to consistently work on your game. The level is so high that you can’t really lose focus on the fundamentals of that position.”
Speaking about his own season so far, Hall said: “We definitely are (in the fight for the top four). It is so tight in the Premier League this season, you win a couple of games and you are right back up there. The table has everybody pushing for the Champions League spots.
“We need to go game by game, and hopefully, we can get one of those places. We knew this stage of the season was going to be difficult (Man City and Liverpool away) but there are still a lot of games left and every game between now and the end of the season is important to push for the Champions League spots.
