Newcastle United to get glimpse of Yankuba Minteh as Feyenoord make transfer feelings clear

Yankuba Minteh will be given the chance to show what he can do for Newcastle United in the summer months before a decision is made on his immediate future.

The winger, 19, has impressed at Feyenoord this season and the Dutch club are desperate to keep the youngster in Rotterdam for another campaign. Eddie Howe, however, wants to run the rule over Minteh‘s progress in the Eredivisie before deciding whether another loan deal would be the best course of action for the Gambian international.

Minteh has netted 10 goals in all competitions this season, eventually finding his feet in Arne Slot’s side after an initial shaky start in the Netherlands. Many on Tyneside have witnessed his impressive displays this term and believe the teenager deserves a crack at battling it out with Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy for a first-team spot at St James’ Park.

Feyenoord are hopeful Howe will allow Minteh another temporary spell at De Kuip, with Slot and the club’s boardroom chiefs publicly declaring their desire for an extended deal to be agreed.

Speaking on Monday, after Feyenoord lifted the Dutch Cup in a game where Minteh was sent off, general manager Dennis te Kloese said: “We have good contact with Newcastle and both parties are happy with how things went. Everyone now sees that it can be a good construction for those types of clubs to first loan out such players for a year.”

Minteh too has publicly spoken of his happiness in recent months, with the player also open to another temporary spell in the Netherlands. However, the young forward is aware the final decision will lie with Newcastle.

“Ultimately, the Premier League is my goal.” Minteh told Voetbal International. “Newcastle United is the club that have a lot of confidence in me. I have no idea what the future looks like.

“I was in Newcastle once, when they played against Borussia Dortmund. I will hear soon what plans the club has for me. I’m still young, I have time, maybe they want to loan me out again.

“I don’t know yet, I’ll hear about it. I’ll let everything happen to me. I know only that one day I will play in the Premier League (for Newcastle United).”
