Newcastle United have made the most of a rare free week to prepare for Saturday’s big Premier League test against Southampton at St Mary’s. While many of their rivals are involved in midweek European competition, Eddie Howe’s squad have had the chance to focus on fitness and tactics at Benton.
United are desperate to make amends for last week’s home defeat to Bournemouth, which saw their remarkable nine-match winning run come to an end, and will be desperate to get at the Saints on Saturday. There has been plenty of transfer talk again this week, of course, with Miguel Almiron, Lloyd Kelly and Odysseas Vlachodimos all linked with move away.
