Newcastle United weigh up pre-season tour plans after Far East friendly offers

Newcastle United have been offered the chance of a pre-season tour in Japan.

As reported on Chronicle Live last month, Newcastle have had a number of offers from around the globe with a tournament offer involving other Premier League clubs including Wolves, West Ham and Everton had been pencilled in for dates in America. But sources close to J League clubs in Japan this morning say Newcastle will be heading to the Far East.

United will face games against Urawa and Yokohama with the clash against the Urawa Reds expected to be held at the Saitama Stadium on July 31. The details of the tour are yet to be confirmed and fans are urged not to book flights until official arrangements are known but the trip will come hot on the heels of Newcastle’s long haul journey to Australia where they face two matches in May against Tottenham Hotspur and then the A-League all stars.

Talking about the trip to Australia, Howe said: “If the club say we’re going, then I’m in 100 per cent. We’re moving forward very quickly and we have to keep a pace so, when asked to do such things, we’ll do it.”

“This is a great opportunity to showcase Newcastle United at two iconic venues in an iconic city as the club continues to grow globally.

“We are privileged to have so many incredible supporters around the world, and it’s a chance to be able to play in front of many in Australia who wouldn’t ordinarily get the chance to see the team. We look forward to engaging with our supporters in Melbourne and giving them the opportunity to feel closer to the club.”
