North East New Year’s Day activities to kickstart 2025

Many may be planning a big night-out to celebrate New Year’s Eve and see 2025 in with style.

Fireworks are planned across the region – including the return of the eye-catching display to the skies above Newcastle for the first time since 2019, confirmed by Newcastle City Council earlier this year.

However, you may be on the lookout for things to do to kickstart the first day of 2025. Here is a round-up of some events taking place on New Year’s Day:

There will be several New Years Day dips across the region for those that fancy starting the new year braving the freezing north sea.

Planned events include an 11am sea dip at Tynemouth Longsands beach organised by Dip Club and 11am on Whitley Bay beach.

As per tradition, the Monkseaton Morris Dancers will be out on New Year’s Day. The Dancers will start outside of The Ship Inn in Monkseaton at 12pm for the hour long show before the group dances around the local pubs.

They plan to finish off at the Left Luggage Room for one final dance and we lead the crowd in a rendition of Blaydon Races.
