A picturesque village in Northumberland, which is a huge hit with tourists and has its fair share of famous visitors, has landed on a list of the best places to live by the sea in the UK.
There’s a famous song called ‘I Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside’ and stats show that a growing number of people are now swapping the hustle and bustle life for the more tranquil surroundings of the coast and all that change of scenery has to offer. And new rankings from website Rest Less, whose mission statement is to ‘inspire today’s generation of over 50s to get the most from life’ have put Bamburgh in a top 10 of the most beautiful seaside towns.
While definitely more of a village and ‘civil parish’ than a town, Bamburgh is the only North East location on the list, which also features the likes of Salcombe in Devon, Tenby in Wales and Kent’s famous Margate. At number 2 in the Rest Less recommendations, Bamburgh is described as ‘an excellent coastal location for people wanting to live somewhere that feels quiet and remote’ with Rest Less telling their readers ‘if you’re looking to live in a traditional English seaside village that’s decidedly less busy than those down south, Bamburgh fits the bill.’
The description of the much praised Northumberland destination adds:’Surrounded by windswept beaches and beautiful moorland, the picturesque village is enchanting – boasting cosy pubs and cafes tucked away down side streets, old, snug cottages, and grand houses backing onto vast greens.’
The fact that Bamburgh has landed in the Rest Less top 10 places to live by the sea is no surprise, given that it has been named ‘best seaside town in the UK’ by consumer guide Which? four years in a row, with Bamburgh beach also rated as Northumberland’s best coastal gem by travel firm Away Resorts last week.
As well as being exceedingly popular with locals and visitors, Bamburgh has also become a bit of a celebrity favourite too; with Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts blown away by the stunning surroundings, when she went for a beach walk during a break in the group’s arena tour last year, the Indiana Jones cast, including Hollywood legend Harrison Ford, heading there in 2021 and stars of ITV’s Vera also no stranger to Bamburgh either.
