Oliver Glasner singles out Sean Longstaff as danger man as Eddie Howe warns Newcastle players

Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff has been singled out as “very dangerous” ahead of the Magpies’ trip to Crystal Palace.

Longstaff was described by Eddie Howe as an “unsung hero” recently but his value has been pinpointed by Palace boss Oliver Glasner as a key player. Longstaff has been a regular starter for Newcastle this term and will be asked to hold the midfield at Selhurst Park.

Glasner said: “Isak is always on the jump for running in behind. Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and then midfield, Sean Longstaff, make a lot of runs and are very dangerous, but to control it, we know what they want to do, and it’s again up to us to be ready, to be focused so that we are not surprised by what they do, so that we can anticipate what they are doing.

“But it’s as important what we are doing in our position, that we move the ball quick, that we create chances, that we force them to defend very well.”

Toon boss Howe was wary of Palace’s threat despite their place in the lower half of the Premier League table. Palace have beaten Liverpool away and thumped West Ham 5-2 at the weekend.

Howe said: “They have had two very good performances and I think that has been coming for them. They have been playing very well and maybe not getting the results they deserved.

“Credit to the new manager who has come in and instantly played a new system that has got the best out of the players they have.

“It gives them a good platform to express themselves and I think, for us, we can’t underestimate this is going to be a difficult game against a team in form.”
