Pregnant Michelle Keegan’s telly return revealed after announcing first baby with husband Mark Wright

She’s going to be very busy with nappy changes and late nights soon enough – but fans won’t have to wait long before they see actress Michelle Keegan make her TV return. The star, 37, who revealed on Sunday 29 December in a sweet post that she was expecting her first child with Mark Wright, also 37, will appear on our small screens soon in the new series of Aussie drama Ten Pound Poms.

Former Corrie star Michelle had filmed the BBC drama, which is written and created by the BAFTA award-winning Danny Brocklehurst, earlier this year – and looks stunning in her period outfits in stills newly released by the channel. The Manchester-born beauty plays nurse Kate Thorne in the series, which went down a storm with viewers – becoming one of Britain’s most successful new TV series’ last year, with a 28-day figure of a whopping 7.7 million viewers.

Ten Pound Poms was one of the biggest new British dramas of last year

It began by following a group of Brits who migrated to Australia after WW2 in 1957, risking it all in the hope of a better life Down Under. In the second series, the group’s adventures continue as, despite a host of obstacles, they fight to achieve their Australian dream – as new characters such as the Skinner family from Ireland and exploitative landlord, Benny Bates, join the cast.

After a tough first year in Australia, series two follows nurse Kate and the Roberts family into 1957 as they grapple with the gap between the life they were promised and the harsh realities they face at Galgownie.

Speaking on the Ten Pound Poms revival at the time of the show’s launch, producer Danny said: “The positive viewer response to Ten Pound Poms was a true delight. We tapped into a little-known part of our recent history and told stories which reflected the realities of the real Poms that made the trip.”

Michelle and Mark have been married since 2015

Meanwhile, Michelle, who has been married to former TOWIE star Mark for almost 10 years, will no doubt be slowing things down on the work front to prepare for the couple’s new arrival, and preparing their stunning Essex home, which they built from scratch and moved into in September 2022, for the patter of tiny feet.

Famous pals as well as fans were delighted at their big news, and rushed to congratulate them on social media. Mark’s best pal, Towie star James ‘Arg’ Argent wrote under their reveal post: “I love you and I’m so happy for you both. You’re going to be amazing parents.” Model Kelly Brook added: “This is amazing news.”, and actress Helen Flanagan wrote: “So happy for you both.”

The pair’s love story began when they met backstage at The X Factor in 2011, followed a year later by Mark asking Michelle out on a date. They married at St Mary’s Church in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, in 2015.

Ten Pound Poms will return to BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2025.
