Sunderland are poised to confirm the loan signing of Liverpool’s promising talent Jayden Danns today. The Chronicle revealed on transfer deadline day that the Black cats were poised to capture the young striker.
Danns has featured four times for Liverpool this season, including a Champions League appearance in the 3-2 loss to PSV Eindhoven last week. However, Reds boss Arne Slot is confident in his current attacking options and gave the deal the green light.
Although an announcement was anticipated on Monday night, it’s understood that Danns completed his paperwork in time to join Sunderland for the remainder of the season. The announcement was delayed due to the Black Cats’ clash with Middlesbrough which saw Regis Le Bris’ side win 3-2.
As Chronicle Live reported on Monday that Sunderland presented the most attractive proposal for the 19 year old as they aim for promotion to the Premier League. Their campaign received a significant boost with the victory at the Riverside Stadium last night.
Currently sitting fourth in the Championship and just five points adrift of leaders Leeds United, Sunderland could see Danns make his debut against Watford at the Stadium of Light this Saturday.
Last month, Liverpool boss Slot commented on loaning out players: “You take a lot of things into account if you want to loan out a player, and this could be one of them.”
The manager weighed in on team selection, saying: “But there are also other factors you take into account: is it good for a player to get some playing time, yes or no? Do we think we still need him? ” He also provided an update on the squad’s health: “We do have already three options for the No. 9 position and it’s not like we expect Jota to now be out for a long period of time.”
Concerning upcoming matches, he noted: “It will be a struggle to have him on the pitch maybe on Saturday, but we’re hoping to see him on the pitch in the near future again. So we have three options.”
And acknowledging the performance of a rising star, he added: “But Jayden did really well when he came in so we actually have four options. Then it’s up to us as a club to make the best possible decision for the near future, but also for the long-term future of this club.”
