Road closed and one taken to hospital following crash in County Durham

A person has been taken to hospital following a crash in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to Leadgate, near Consett, shortly before 4pm on Tuesday after a two vehicle collision. Two people were injured, one of whom was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham (UHND).

The B6309 between New Watling Street and the Leadgate Crossroads remains closed. Durham Constabulary urged motorists to find an alternative route while vehicles are recovered.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Police were called shortly before 4pm today (December 16) to reports of two vehicle collision in Leadgate. The road is currently closed between Leadgate crossroads and New Watling Street.”

The North East Ambulance Service added: “We received a call at 3.55pm on Monday 16 December to reports of a road traffic incident on New Watling Street in Consett. We dispatched two ambulance crews to the scene and transported one patient to UHND for further treatment.”
