Sainsbury’s and Asda urgently recall dinner item and issue do not eat warning

A popular lunchtime snack has been withdrawn from supermarket shelves, with a health warning issued to customers. Sainsbury’s and Asda have initiated a recall of bread rolls due to concerns that a packaging error could pose a risk to customers with a specific allergy.

The recall pertains to a batch of McGhee’s Scottish Brown Rolls because of an undisclosed allergen. McGhee’s Family Bakers are recalling the 6-pack Scottish Brown Rolls as several packs were found to contain white rolls, which include soya.

The batch being recalled is LS5007, with a best before date of January 12, 2025. Customers who have purchased any of the affected packs are urged to return them to the store where they were bought for a full refund, receipt or no receipt.

No other products by McGhee’s are known to be affected. A statement released via Food Standards Scotland stated: “McGhee’s Family Bakers is recalling the above product which was sold at Asda and Sainsbury’s stores and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.”

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”, reports the Mirror.

This follows an urgent recall issued by Morrisons shortly before Christmas due to health concerns over one of its products.

The supermarket was forced to recall its own brand Crushed Garlic tubes after discovering that a key ingredient which inhibits microbiological growth was missing, prompting the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to deem the product “potentially unsafe to eat”.

Elsewhere, Tesco has recently confirmed it is making a major change to supermarket stores in a bid to tackle shoplifting. The supermarket has taken the measure of installing keypad-operated cabinets in the alcohol aisles, specifically for champagne and other sparkling wines.

Shoplifters attempting to steal will hear an alarm if the chiller door is left open for more than seven seconds. These cabinets were initially trialled in some stores in 2023 before being expanded to more.
