Sam Fender handed Greggs sausage roll in Paris as fan makes 300 mile trip from Newcastle

There was a little taste of home for Sam Fender on Tuesday night, when he was presented with a Greggs sausage roll, as his tour kicked off in Paris. And what’s more impressive is that the fan who gave him the pastry bought it at Newcastle Airport and took it all the way over to France.

After an amazing week for the North Shields musician, which saw him land his third number 1 album in a row, on sales of 107,000, before winning his third Brit and delivering a barnstorming performance of People Watching at the awards on Saturday night., he and his band are back on the road for the European dates of the People Watching tour, which will eventually bring them back to home turf in June, for three highly anticipated sold out gigs on home turf.

There was a lot of curiosity around Sam’s show at the L’Olympia venue in Paris, largely down to what songs would make the cut for the tour setlist; now that he has three albums of anthems at his disposal. Fans hoping that tracks from People Watching will be dfelighted to learn that the likes of Arms Length, TV Dinner, Little Bit Closer and Chin Up are all on there and Sam’s evening was made just that little bit better when a fave started waving a Greggs paper bag in the air in a break between songs.

Quickly clocking it, Sam asked: “Is that a Greggs sausage roll?!” with him then looking delighted as it was handed to him. Greggs quickly shared the video of the moment on their Instagram, calling it the ‘ultimate pastry pilgrimage.’

In the same comments the Geordie bakers quipped: “Big question, @sam_fender did the Sausage Roll slap in Paris like it does at home?” with many others also quick to react, including one follower who wrote: “Incredible effort like” and another who pushed for recognition for the fan in question, replying: “Give this man a black card!”

Sam’s tour dates will take him to the Netherlands today, March 5, before he goes to Zurich, Munich, Cologne, Berlin and Amsterdam in the next few weeks.
