So the cat is out of the bag and Sam Fender is playing St James’ Park in Newcastle again next year, with two gigs confirmed for June. And we also know who’ll be supporting him for the shows.
Back in June last year, Sam and his band played to a combined audience of over 100,000 people when they packed out Newcastle United’s famous stadium for two incredible nights of live entertainment, as Seventeen Going under was sang with gusto on the pitch, in the stands and on the streets of the city centre afterwards.
Before he’s even released his new album People Watching, Sam has sold out the UK and European tour of the same name, which will begin in Dublin early next month and bring him to Newcastle on December 20, for a pre-Christmas concert that looks set to lift the roof off the Utilita Arena.
Once all of the dates on his new tour had sold out, Sam took to Instagram to quip that he and his band might ‘need a bigger boat’ for next year and, true to his word, that bigger boat will be St James’ Park and The London Stadium.
Sam will play his biggest gig to date in the capital on June 6, before then heading to home turf on June 12 and 14 for two nights at St James’. And he won’t be the only act on the bill at either venue, with his stadium support acts also announced

Cmat – June 12 and 14
Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, known professionally as CMAT, is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician, who released her debut album, If My Wife New I’d Be Dead in 2022.
She has received huge critical acclaim and, prior to Friday’s announcement, had already been confirmed as the support for Sam’s People Watching dates in Europe.
The War on Drugs – June 14 only
The American band, consisting of Adam Granduciel, David Hartley, Robbie Bennett, Charlie Hall, Jon Natchez, Anthony LaMarca and Eliza Hardy Jones, were formed in 2005, before releasing their debut album three years later.
They now have five albums under their belt, as long as a string of sell out shows and festival dates across the world and frontman Adam has been working with Sam on People Watching.
