Sam Fender tribute Sham Fender set to pack out Newcastle bar as arena gig postponed

The real deal may not longer be playing in Newcastle on Friday night, having been left ‘heartbroken’ at having to postpone his arena gig, but the show will go on for a Sam Fender tribute act, who is now set to draw even more of a crowd to his performance in a city centre bar.

After wowing audiences in the likes of Dublin, Manchester and London on his People Watching tour, Sam, together with his band, was gearing up for what looked set to be an epic Christmas homecoming at the Utilita Arena on December 20, only for him to announce on Tuesday afternoon that he’d had to make the incredibly tough decision to postpone.

The Seventeen Going Under star explained to fans in a social media statement that, after coming down with the flu and managing to get through Monday’s show in Birmingham, it’s been discovered that he’s haemorrhaged one of his vocal chords has been advised to be on vocal rest for a while in order for it to recover.

As the arena confirmed they were ‘looking to reschedule,’ Sam told his many followers, some of whom were all set to see him in Glasgow on Tuesday “I’ve had two separate ENT doctors say if I perform tonight I’m risking lasting damage to my voice and I have been advised to be on vocal rest and not use my voice for a prolonged length of time until it heals. I’ve done everything by the book this tour living like a monk, it’s so unlucky.”

While Sam will no longer be the main attraction in Newcastle on Friday, with many people breaking up for Christmas and office parties aplenty it’s sure to still be heaving in town and the place to be for Sam Fender fans still wanting to make a night of it will definitely be Newgate Social in The Gate.

The live music bar will play host to tribute Sham Fender and, assuring that the gig was still going ahead, they posted: “We’re absolutely gutted to hear Sam Fender won’t be performing this Friday at the Utilita Arena, but health should always comes first. Wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping he’s back on his feet soon.

“If you were heading to the gig and still fancy a night filled with Sam’s anthems, Sham Fender will be at The Newgate Social this Friday. Tickets are still up for grabs”
