Sam Fender’s Newcastle gig cancelled as update confirms arena date won’t be rescheduled

Sam Fender fans have been left gutted after being told that his postponed Newcastle gig has now been cancelled entirely, with an email confirming that plans to reschedule will not be possible, due to logistical reasons.

Given the demand for tickets to see Sam at the Utilita Arena on December 20 was so high that they were only made available via a postcode ballot, excitement was at fever pitch for his first show on home turf since his epic two nighter at St James’ Park in June 2023. Having wowed crowds in Dublin, Manchester, Leeds and London since his new People Watching tour began earlier this month, North Shields star Sam and his band were all set to entertain a capacity crowd on Tyneside this weekend, only for Sam to break the sad news on Tuesday that he’d been forced to postpone the gig on doctor’s orders.

The Seventeen Going Under singer revealed that, having powered through to perform in Birmingham at the start of the week, it was discovered that he’d ‘haemorrhaged a vocal chord’ and had been told to be on vocal rest for a ‘prolonged period of time’ in order to recover and avoid doing any lasting damage.

Sam said he hoped to reschedule the arena concert, with the venue also releasing their own statement saying that was the plan. But, on Friday afternoon, an email landed in the inboxes of fans with tickets to inform them that would no longer be the case.

The email, seen by ChronicleLive reads: ‘Unfortunately, due to logistical reasons we will not be able to reschedule the Sam Fender show that was due to take place at Newcastle Arena on 20th December and you will receive a full refund for your ticket purchase via ticket provider AXS.”

The email added that as a ‘thank you for understanding’ all those affected will have their email address added to a waiting list for tickets for Sam’s recently confirmed St James’ Park dates on June 12, 14 and 15 next year, with it expected that a number of production tickets will become available in the run up to the gigs.
