Saweetie Makes ‘Icy’ Reintroduction During L.A’s Concerts in the City Series

The line to see Saweetie perform the final show in Verizon’s 5G Home Internet Concert in the City Series didn’t just circle a block. It extended for many, many blocks.

Hours before the Bay Area rapper hit the stage at NeueHouse Hollywood, fans waited patiently just to see their fave. And once attendees made it inside to the rooftop bar, they were greeted with West Coast rap anthems, a photobooth, and drinks named after the Grammy-nominated rapper, like the My Baby Picante and Nani Negroni.

Once Saweetie hit the stage with her multi-part band, The Yee Section, (which even included a harpist and a flutist), Neuehouse went up! The 31-year-old artist opened the show with “Hot Boy” from her 2019 EP Icy. “Where my day-one Icy Girls and Icy Boys at?” she called out. “You know we gotta bring it back to Saweetie rapping in her kitchen.”

Rocking platinum blonde hair, a baby blue custom jersey, bedazzled belt, and Y2K-appropriate jeans, Saweetie served ‘round-the-way-girl glamour while running through live reinterpretations of her catalog. During a stripped-down version of her breakout track “Icy,” she gave a special shoutout to friends and family holding it down in the crowd. And while Doja Cat was absent, Saweetie performed their 2021 collaboration “Best Friend” effortlessly, inviting the audience to celebrate their own BFFs.

Between performing boss-up anthems like “Back to the Streets,” “The Way” and “Richtivities,” Saweetie extended gratitude to her band and fellow California rapper LaRussell, with whom she has recently collaborated. She credited her team with helping her evolve both personally and professionally, a sentiment she shared throughout the evening.

“With all this pressure that’s been placed on me, I feel like it’s put me on this journey of becoming a diamond,” Saweetie told the audience toward the end of the show. “And for those who don’t know, my name is Diamonté. And I really appreciate y’all for rocking with me tonight. So, if it’s not one thing that you take from this show, take this, and just remember that you’re blessed on your hard days.”
