An investigation has been launched after a suspected arson attack in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, last night.
There has been an increased police presence in Lilburne Crescent today (Thursday, March 6), after a house was targeted shortly before 8pm last night. It is believed two men on a scooter have approached the address before throwing a brick through the window, pouring petrol through it and setting it alight before making off.
Thankfully, the single occupant of the property was unharmed but police say they were shaken by the incident and they are being supported by specialist officers. A full investigation has been launched by Newton Aycliffe Police and extensive house-to-house enquiries have continued throughout the night and today.
Officers from Durham Constabulary believe the incident is connected to a similar arson in the Beechfield area of Newton Aycliffe on Monday, after two cars were destroyed. and enquiries so far have identified a number of suspects with officers seeking arrests.
