Getting to stay over at your favourite Spoons pub do you don’t have to stumble home after a few bevs sounds like the dream right? Well that’s an option now available to drinkers in Newcastle, thanks to the opening of a Wetherspoons hotel in the city.
Having a night out at Spoons, whether it be for a quiz, steak night, curry club or just a catch up with mates, is like a rite of passage for Brits and the ante was upped on Tyneside towards the end of last year, thanks the unveiling of a ‘Super Spoons’ in the city centre after a multi million pound investment in the already hugely popular Mile Castle pub.
The three storey haunt on Westgate Road had long since been a favourite amongst locals and visitors to the city, with its makeover only helping to add to the buzz surrounding it. And, as well as each of its floors being given an aesthetic uplift, The Mile Castle is now home to its own hotel, boasting 26 rooms including twins, double and accessible options.
Prices for a night at Wetherspoons hotel start at just £60, with a glance at bookings on the Mile Castle website for this weekend, revealing that even with Newcastle at home to Fulham on Saturday, you can still get a room at, what is sure to be a very busy Mile Castle, for a very reasonable £104. Each room has its own wet room or more traditional bathroom, some with bath tubs and shower; tea and coffee facilities, WiFi, a TV and air conditioning, with guests able to check in from 2pm, with check out at 11am the following day.
Given its brilliant location right in the middle of town, The Mile Castle hotel is within easy reach of popular Newcastle attractions, including music venues like NX and the Utilita Arena, Tyne Theatre, Theatre Royal and The Stand, St James’ Park and, of course, the city’s other pubs and bars, including the Bigg Market.
Its online description reads: ‘Housed in a grade II listed building, in the heart of Newcastle city centre. The hotel offers rooms to suit all, from family rooms to single rooms. Being just a short walk into the city centre you can enjoy all that Newcastle has to offer from shopping and theatre to football and art galleries.’
