Strictly Come Dancing star rushed to hospital amid health scare as they reveal there’s ‘no cure’

Strictly Come Dancing star and renowned astrologer Russell Grant has had a health scare, rushing to hospital after noticing some worrying signs with his vision. The 2011 Strictly participant shared that this week, he woke to find “strange cottony things floating” in his left eye.

After seeking help, he was whisked away to the hospital’s eye clinic where they discovered he had a bleed behind the eye. Luckily, no retinal damage occurred, but doctors told him he’d have to get used to these floaters as there’s no cure. Keeping his followers updated on X, he detailed: “Monday: I woke with strange cottony things floating in my left eye. Headed to the opticians for tests. Next day @BlackpoolHosp called: day after into the eye clinic. Result: I had a bleed behind my eye but no retinal damage but it seems I have to befriend the floater! No cure.”

Back in March 2023, Russell shared news of his brain tumour diagnosis. He regularly updates fans about his condition and last June, he revealed he might have returned to being diabetic.

Russell expressed concern, writing: “Morning. The latest news on my post pituitary brain tumour operation is the possibility I have returned to being diabetic. I was once Type 2 but controlled it by diet. However, it’s possible taking so many steroids to keep me going they’ve increased my blood sugar,” eliciting a surge of support and well-wishes from concerned fans, reports the Mirror.

Russell also took a moment back in 2021 to look back on his memorable time on Strictly Come Dancing, celebrating a decade since his show stint, which included that unforgettable moment he was shot out of a cannon.

Russell revealed: “The funniest thing with that is, there I was, turning things down, not thinking I could do them, but with the cannon, I couldn’t wait to do it. In fact, I demanded to rehearse it six times! I would in no way swap the memories of the Wembley Arena and 6,000 people standing and giving me an ovation – and that was before I had even come out the bloody thing!”

He explained that he initially turned down the offer to appear on the show in 2011, citing his age and lack of confidence. However, his mum, a huge fan of the show, persuaded him to reconsider: “My mum was wedded to Strictly, bless her. She told me I had to go in and do it or I’d regret it for the rest of my life. We don’t want to have regrets – think of Edith Piaf, Je Ne Regrette Rien. I thank god Strictly came into my life. It taught me that if you really want to do something, just do it. I was 60 when I did it and once I’d done it, I thought why the hell couldn’t I have done it when I was 30?!”
