Strictly Come Dancing’s Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell’s sad news after incredible win

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell may have just won the Strictly Come Dancing title, but they’ve already announced their ‘split’. Much to the disappointment of their fans who have supported them during their Strictly journey, the pair will sadly not be joining the show’s upcoming live tour together.

The comedian and professional dancer won over the nation with their undeniable bond and incredible routines, with Chris learning them all without any vision. They entered the final on Saturday night (14 December) as one of the most loved couples in the show’s history, with betting odds suggesting they were the clear favourites to win – one bookie had them at 1/18 odds on favourites to triumph.

Despite being the obvious frontrunners, champions Chris and Dianne still faced a tough final. Like the other three couples, they had to perform three different dances in the ballroom, reports Chronicle Live.

They started with their Couple’s Choice, chosen by the judges, followed by their Show Dance, and finally scored their first-ever perfect 40 with their third and final number – a waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone. Both Chris and Dianne were visibly emotional when the music stopped on their final performance.

This emotional reaction might be because, unlike Sarah and Vito, JB and Lauren, and Tasha and Aljaz, they won’t be joining the tour, meaning it was their last dance together. This leaves the show in an unusual and unfortunate situation where the winners are completely absent from the tour.

As Tess Daly introduced Chris and Dianne’s waltz, she referred to it as their ‘last dance’, a sentiment echoed by Claudia Winkleman, who noted that while it was their ‘last dance’, their bond would certainly continue beyond the show. Chris’ absence from the Strictly tour is because all the arena dates clash with his own stand-up gigs, which have seen him add more dates due to the huge demand for tickets.

During the couple’s first dance of the Strictly final, viewers were left reaching for their tissues after their Couple’s Choice routine to John Lennon’s Instant Karma! (We All Shine On). The routine brought judges Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse to their feet, earning a score of 38.

Motsi couldn’t hold back her tears, and neither could fans at home, who shared their emotional reactions on social media. One viewer tweeted: “I’ve been crying since the show started. Don’t worry, Motsi.”

Another said: “Like Motsi, I’m already a mess after that dance from Chris and Dianne.” Others expressed their feelings with comments like: “I am in tears again! Chris and Dianne” and “Sobbing. Just let me be.”

“Chris and Dianne are pure joy. My winners,” one more penned. Post-performance, Chris described feeling “overwhelming” emotion at making it to the final and reflected on their journey.

He said: “I feel like we’ve never stayed in the competition above anybody that got higher scores than us, so it feels like we’ve exceeded expectations and got here on our own merits, so we’ve succeeded above and beyond what we expected of ourselves.”
