Strictly Come Dancing fans have voiced their concern over Tasha Ghouri, as they feel the show is doing the Love Island star “a disservice.” The 26 year old, who was born deaf and uses a cochlear implant, is paired with professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec on the hit BBC show, and quickly became a fan favourite due to her impressive dance skills and warm rapport with her dance partner.
One viewer took to the Strictly Come Dancing Reddit thread, where they sparked discussion with one observation. They said: “Tasha is such a great dancer and appears to be a lovely person as well, but I really think the producers do her a disservice. Viewers don’t like it when certain couples appear to be being favourited over others, and putting Tasha near to last on every show will eventually play against her. It happened with Alexandra Burke as well.”
One fan weighed in with their opinion, saying: “I mean you can’t put her on first because every other performance would be getting compared to hers, and none of the others would be scored even close to hers.” Another echoed the sentiment, saying: “That’s why they put her close to the end.”
A third added to the debate, saying: “Nothing to do with the producers. People don’t like her because she’s by far the best dancer and she’s also very beautiful. Your typical Strictly viewer wants the underdog to win. Your typical viewer is also female and favours the male celebs. Which is why you see lots of these ‘I just can’t connect with her, she’s boring’ type comments. They’d rather watch Chris [McCausland] or Pete [Wicks] awkwardly move around the dancefloor because they have ‘personality’ off the dancefloor. Ultimately the general public vote on who they like the most, not who is the best dancer.”
Meanwhile, another user heaped praise on Tasha, saying: “I think she’s brilliant. She’s such a sweetie, enthusiastic, and a really good dancer. That’s what I come to see.” Just last month, fans were left scratching their heads over an unexpected scoring gap. Liverpudlian comedian Chris and pro partner Dianne Buswell stirred emotions with their poignant performance to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ a song deeply significant to Chris. Judges Shirley Ballas, Anton du Beke, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood appeared moved, awarding the duo their highest score yet – a mighty 35 points.
In contrast, Tasha’s fierce Tango to Florence + The Machine’s hit was awarded 34 points, sparking a flurry of tweets on X, formerly known as Twitter. One viewer remarked: “#Strictly Picky picky…. Chris better than Tasha… You’re having a laugh….” Tasha and Aljaz were awarded an 8 from Shirley and Craig, while Anton and Motsi awarded the pair a 9.
Another chimed in: “In no world whatsoever should Tasha’s Tango have scored lower than Chris’ dance but I’m not surprised at all.. The judges love to let things slide when something is emotional.” Adding to the mix, a third added: “The standard tonight is so high already. Even the dances that are being judged as ‘good but these little things to make it great’ are getting strong scores #Strictly.”
Clearly exasperated by the results, another fan vented: “Tasha getting a lower score than Chris is actually LAUGHABLE. Stop giving him special treatment. It’s obvious at this point #strictly.”
Despite some initial criticism, Chris’s heartfelt dance was met with adoration all around. Post-performance, as he looked to his professional partner Dianne for reassurance, “Did I do okay?” as she warmly reassured him: “I’m so proud of you!” The moment had viewers reaching for tissues across the nation.
“Genuinely sobbing at Chris and Dianne’s dance right now. it was unbelievably stunning #strictly,” one fan tweeted. Emotions flowed on social media as another said: “Sobbing at Chris AGAIN #Strictly”, while a third shared: “Well I am SOBBING #Strictly.” Another emotionally charged tweet read: “Chris and Dianne have me SOBBING. #strictly.”
