Strictly star Nikita Kuzmin’s new partner reveals sweet nickname for first time

Tamzin Outhwaite is on a glittering personal quest, braving sequins and salsas for the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 Christmas Special. The 54-year-old actress, best known for her role in EastEnders, has been paired with the dazzling salsa pro Nikita Kuzmin, who she’s affectionately nicknamed.

Despite admitting to feeling “terrifying” nerves and suffering from back pain that makes her wake up “like a nana,” Tamzin is determined to embrace the challenge and “fill up my own cup”. She’s absolutely thrilled with her partner Nikita. “He’s got such great energy,” she says. “As soon as I walked into the room, I could tell that his energy had a similar vibe to mine.”

The duo’s chemistry is so delightful that at home, Tamzin’s daughters Florence, 16, and Marnie, 12, have dubbed him ‘Prince Charming’. Tamzin gushes, “He just has the hair and face and the body and everything. He looks like Prince Charming.”

While Strictly has seen its fair share of romances over its 20 years, Tamzin laughs off any suggestion of falling for her partner. “Of course I haven’t!” She highlights that “he’s a 26-year-old man with a wonderful girlfriend.”

Although Tamzin is unable to commit to a full series of Strictly Come Dancing, she describes her experience in the Christmas Special as “a little snippet, a little hors d’oeuvre of Strictly”. When questioned about joining the show in 2025, she confesses: “It would terrify me,” and “I don’t think my body would hold out. Maybe I should have done it when I was younger.”

The star admits that the rigorous training is having an impact, as she reveals she feels the strain after training, “I’m of a certain age and waking up the following morning in agony thinking, ‘Why didn’t I do this in my forties?’

“I’ve been holding the frame of a Viennese waltz, which I’ve never done, and my back was in such an alien position but it felt beautiful to do it. But dancing brought all the joy of dance back into my life – it sounds cheesy but it’s real and it really happened.”

Although Tamzin might not be appearing on the main show next year, she has no plans to stop dancing, announcing her eagerness to attend more classes without the watchful eyes of the Strictly judges. “I’ve got the bug to do a class, or do some ballroom or go to a workshop,” she says.
