Students from a school in Gateshead have been selected to take part in an exciting opportunity for the MOBO Awards which are taking place in Newcastle.
Pupils from Heworth Grange School have been asked to take part in a fringe event for the forthcoming awards, taking place on Tuesday, February 18, which celebrate excellence in Black music and culture.
Glow Newcastle, a new organisation that has grown out of Newcastle Cultural Education Partnership, has asked a group of students to create a music video. Glow, in collaboration of Northern Roots and the Tyneside Cinema, has also asked the students to create a documentary showing the ‘making of’ the music video.
Heworth Grange School has selected 11 students from its Year 10 Dance and Film Studies classes to take part in the project.
The students are currently rehearsing, performing and shooting a dance music video; at the same time, they will produce a ‘making of the video’ documentary, after learning how to create documentaries on their mobile phones.
The dance video will then be premièred at the Tyneside Cinema on Saturday, February 15 at 5pm.
Erin Anderson, Associate Assistant Headteacher at Heworth Grange School, said: “We are very proud to have been approached by Glow Newcastle to take part in this fringe event for the MOBOs.
“Our talented students are now working hard to perfect their dance routine and to document their experiences of making the video on their mobile phones.”
Neil Rodgers, Headteacher at Heworth Grange School, said: “This is great news for Heworth Grange School and I am delighted that our students have been asked to take part. It is an amazing opportunity for our students to show off their talent in the performing arts and also in digital technology.”
The MOBO Awards are taking place at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle on Tuesday, February 18. Former Love Island finalist Indiyah Polack has been confirmed as one of the hosts, alongside comedian Eddie Kadi, who was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023.
Three artists have also been confirmed to be performing at the awards, including UK rap royalty Krept & Konan, as well as Jamaican artist Spice and UK rapper Bashy.
