Sunderland bounced back to winning ways against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night thanks to brilliant brace form Eliezer Mayenda.
The 19-year-old took his Championship goal tally to six for the season, as the Black Cats tightened their grip on their play-off berth. However, they’ll have to wait until later this weekend to see if they’ve been able to close the gap to the automatic promotion spots.
Regis Le Bris side made five changes for the clash at Hillsborough, welcoming Alan Browne and Romaine Mundle back into the fold after spells on the sidelines. Despite that boost, the Black Cats were dealt yet another blow in the build up to the game, with Ian Poveda suffering from an injury in training.
It’s unclear the extent of his injury at this stage, having endured a disrupted campaign so far. Chronicle Live has taken a look at the latest Sunderland injury news following the Black Cats win on the road.

We have to see. I’ve spoken with him, absolutely. He is having his treatment at Liverpool but we are doing what we can to build that connection for when he is ready.”
