Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Department inspires epic Greggs spoof within hours of release

It took just a matter of hours for Greggs to pay homage to Taylor Swift’s new album, with an epic skit that quickly went viral and got plenty of reaction on social media.

After substantial hype and before she brings her Eras Tour to UK shores, Taylor dropped The Tortured Poets Department at midnight GMT, with an Anthology version appearing just a few hours later and containing another album’s worth of new material, as fans went wild for all the songs.

It was no surprise that Taylor’s new release quickly became one of the top trends on X (Twitter) with a lot of talk on lyrics which many followers believe are about the singer’s relationship with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy. And the son of Denise Welch and Tim Healy isn’t the only Geordie link to The Tortured Poets Department, as Greggs launched their own version of the album cover on their social channels.

‘The Tortured Pastry Department’ launched just after 9am on Friday, as many Swifties were rushing to listen to the actual album, with the cover not featuring Taylor, but an alluring black and white shot of a sausage roll, as the Newcastle based bakers captioned their post ‘All’s fair in love and pastry.’

It didn’t take long for Greggs followers and Taylor fans alike to react to the creation, with one reacting: “May I please have this name for my new band? “Please welcome to the stage : TORTURED PASTRY!!!!!)” and another quipping: “Better than anything Miss Swift could bring out.”£

Among the many other responses to the Greggs Taylor ‘dupe’ was another a third which read: “Can I go!?”
