Tesco issues apology after removing popular item from every UK store

Tesco has apologised to shoppers as it confirmed that a particular fridge item had been axed from all its stores.

This happened after a customer asked the supermarket on social media where the product had gone. The shopper said on X, formerly Twitter: “Can I ask @Tesco why you don’t sell the six pints of milk anymore? Certainly not home delivery.”

The retailer responded by saying the product was no longer available in its stores. The Tesco spokesperson said: “Good afternoon, thanks for getting in touch. Tesco British Whole Milk 3.408L, 6 Pints has been discontinued. I’m sorry for any disappointment.”

In fact, Tesco discontinued the product from its stores several years ago, in 2023, reports the Mirror. A spokesperson said the move was to help reduce store wastage.

They said: “We phased out six-pint bottles of milk back in 2023 to reduce wastage, as there were higher levels of waste on that product size.” It noted that its four pint bottles provided the “same great value per pint,” adding: “Especially as we have reduced milk prices twice in recent weeks.”

When the axing occurred in 2023, one shopper said: “@Tesco have you stopped selling six pint bottles of semi skimmed milk? Coming up as unavailable on app and none on shelf in store this morning.”

Others also took to social media, confused that they couldn’t pick up the weekly staple in their local stores. One said: “Any idea why six pints of milk never seem available for online orders?” A third added: “I buy lots of milk, but it’s annoying having to pay more by purchasing four-pint bottles.”
