Tesco has urgently recalled a popular Christmas dinner item, the Tesco Red Cabbage and Apple 300G, due to incorrect labelling that could make it unsafe for consumption. The supermarket giant has apologised for any inconvenience caused and is urging customers to check their fridges for the product.
A packaging error means the affected items display a Use By date of December 29, when it should be December 11. This could lead to the red cabbage and apple mix being consumed past its intended shelf life, posing a health risk.
Customers who have purchased the product are advised not to eat it and to return it to any Tesco store for a full refund, no receipt necessary. For further help, customers can contact Tesco Customer Service on 0800 505 555.
In a separate announcement, another major supermarket chain has had to pull a supplement from its shelves over fears it could contain small stones and pieces of metal. ZOE’s Daily 30+ 7 Day, a product from a well-known wellness brand launched by Professor Tim Spector, was swiftly recalled as the presence of foreign objects would make it “unsafe to eat”.
Waitrose has acted quickly to remove the item from sale “because it may contain small stones and small pieces of metal,” as confirmed in an alert by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). The food watchdog has deemed this product unfit for consumption, reports the Mirror.
The supplement, a concoction of seeds and spices meant to be dusted over meals, aims to help you integrate over 30 plants into your weekly diet, including herbs, spices, fruits, and vegetables. However, the ingestion of small, hard items such as stones can pose a choking hazard, particularly for young children.
This isn’t the first instance of metal shards or stones being discovered in food. In October, Marks and Spencer pulled batches of butternut squash soup off the shelves due to concerns they contained metal fragments.
