After all the anticipation and excitement, it’s now time for tens of thousands of Newcastle United fans to make their way to London for the small matter of the Carabao Cup final. And, while they’ll be hundreds of miles from home, there are a number of places they can get in the mood for the big game and hopefully celebrate after.
Well before the final whistle blew on the 2-0 second leg win over Arsenal at St James’ Park on February 5, many United supporters had already made plans for Wembley, with hotels booked, with free cancellation just in case, although having beaten their opponents 2-0 in the first leg, Eddie Howe’s men put themselves in a strong position. Optimistic fans also got their travel arrangements sorted before the second leg as they than had to play the waiting game to find out if they’s got one of the 32,000 final tickets allocated.
While back on home turf there will be a series of fan zones in Newcastle city centre, with plenty of them having free entry, those fans who are descending on the capital, won’t be short of places to party.
As we look ahead to a massive weekend for the club and the whole of Newcastle, here is a guide to the places NUFC supporters might want to check out on Saturday and Sunday. And of, course, before we delve into the list, there will also be Covent Garden on Saturday, which will be this year’s Trafalgar Square.
The best pubs for Newcastle fans to go in London
1.. The Green Man
A great place to check out on Saturday and Sunday, particularly if you’ve got a hotel in the vicinity of Wembley. The Dagmar Avenue pub will be taken over by the Newcastle United Supporters’ Club on Sunday for a special pre-match event.
All tickets for that have long since been snapped up, with fans who’ve managed to get one, advised to make sure they’ve downloaded theirs to gain entry.
2. The Northumberland Arms
Worth a pint here for the same alone surely?! Just a short walk from Kings Cross, The Northumberland Arms describes itself as ‘your local pub based in London’ and will be open from 12 noon right through until 1am on Saturday and 11pm on Sunday, meaning it’ll be a great shout to raise a glass or drown sorrows for anyone catching the train back to Newcastle after the final, particularly given that there will be ‘dry trains’ on the way back.
3. The Dolphin

Another one just a short distance from Kings Cross, ChronicleLive podcast Everything Is Black & White took over The Dolphin for a live podcast event ahead of the 2023 final and you should hear plenty of Geordie anthems is you plan on calling in at any point this weekend
4. Millers
The third on our list that’s just a stroll from Kings Cross, Miller’s has always been a great place to watch a Newcastle match and is sure to be bouncing right across cup final weekend.
5. Crystal’s Sports Bar
The venue in the shadow of Wembley stadium declared it was ‘proud’ to welcome Newcastle United supporters for the cup final two years ago and with NUFC fans being given Wembley West, it’ll be doing the same this Sunday.
6. The Arch
With a large beer garden, the haunt one mile west of Wembley should be particularly popular if the weather plays ball on Sunday. And if you fancy filling up on scran before the game, The Arch is also known for serving up great traditional Indian food.
7. Station 31
Another Wembley West haunt to drop into before the game on Sunday, and, just like The Arch, while also a bar, Station 31 also claims to offer a ‘unique dining experience in an elegant and chic setting.’
8. Liverpool Street
Newcastle United Supporters’ Club have acquired the Goldwood, Broadwood, Northwood, Greenwood pubs close to Liverpool Street station for Saturday night.
9. Stonegate Pubs
Stonegate Group have partnered with Newcastle United Supporters Trust to create dedicated Newcastle fan zones across the city at the following venues: Sports Bar and Grill (Marylebone), Sports Bar and Grill (Old Street), Sports Bar and Grill (Canary Wharf), The Coach House, The Three Lanterns, Bay & Bracket, The Long Acre and The Bridge Tap.
