If you’re thinking about packing your bags and heading off on a European city break – we certainly wouldn’t blame you. After all, the weather on British soil has been incredibly poor as of late, and we all need a little fun in the sun.
But before booking the first deal you come across, we would recommend using one of the internet’s various search engines to compare prices. One of the most popular places that tourists check out for the best deals is SkyScanner – as it compares flights from the likes of TUI, Jet2, Ryanair, British Airways and much more, before showing you the cheapest.
For example, a quick SkyScanner search for flights from Newcastle to Zadar next month brings up a direct flight from Ryanair for just £13 on May 10. So if you’re interested in booking flights, make sure you check out SkyScanner first.
And if Zadar sounds like a bit of you, we’ve compiled some of the best things you can do on the crisp Croatian hotspot below.
Listen to the surreal sea organ –
An abundance of tubes located under a large set of marble steps are played by sea waves – making for a truly unique experience that you’ll struggle to find elsewhere. Make sure you check out the Zadar sea organ if you’re in town to hear some odd but intriguing tunes played by mother nature.
Take in the views at Zrmanja –
Dubbed an ‘untouched piece of heaven on earth’ the Zrmanja River Canyon gives visitors stunning views of the emerald green waters below. If you’re into nature and hikes alike, then be sure to check out the park surrounding the Zrmanja river, you will not be disappointed.
See a one-of-a-kind light show –
Zadar’s Monument to the Sun is made out of three hundred multi-layered glass plates in the form of a 22-meter circle – and while it may just look like an average solar panel during the day, it comes alive in the night time. As the sun starts to set over Croatia, the monument lights up in a stunning showing.
The only place to be at sundown in Zadar.
Check out the Cathedral of St Anastasia –
The largest church in the whole of Dalmatia, the Cathedral of St Anastasia is well and truly some sight. The basilica was built in the 4th and 5th centuries, while the Romanesque three nave building followed in the 12th and 13th. Equally as impressive inside as it is out, you’ll certainly want to see this fantastic monument if you’re interested in bold and brilliant architecture.
Feast on fantastic foods –
One of the best bits of visiting a new country is trying some of the authentic dishes that you’ll struggle to see replicated elsewhere. Why not try some traditional plates like Peka, Pašticada, Pršut or Pag cheese?
