Hunni, North East singers Jen and Liv, won The Voice UK last year and have just released debut single Heartbeat
There was a return to home turf on Friday for The Voice UK winners Jen and Liv released their first single under their new name of Hunni, ahead of a hectic summer that will see them headline a BBC gig and play at two major festivals.
Having ended up on Will.IAm’s team after their audition for the ITV show, the North East duo impressed the Black Eyed Peas star enough to be his last acting standing, before going onto perform with him in the final and coming out on top after the audience vote, winning a record deal with Universal and a luxury holiday.
Since their win on The Voice, which was actually filmed months ahead of viewers getting to see it, Jen, from Whitley Bay and County Durham singer Liv have been hard at work on original material. as well as changing their name to Hunni. And their Hunni era was kickstarted on Friday with the release of their killer debut single Heartbeat.
And, showing that they have no intention of turning their back on their roots, the girls were back in Newcastle city centre on single launch day, having become well known to shoppers for their performances on Northumberland Street over the last few years. Setting up close to Monument, Hunni gave passers by the chance to hear Heartbeat live for the first time, ahead of them headlining BBC Introducing at The Grove next Saturday, April 27.
Talking to ChronicleLive in a quick break between songs, Hunni spoke of their excitement at Heartbeat, with its video filmed in a Newcastle club, finally being out to stream and download, as well as being excited at being back in Newcastle to “celebrate with everyone.”
