Tina Knowles Talks Being ‘Protector’ of Her Kids, Getting Jay-Z Advice

Ms. Tina Knowles fessed up to mistakenly liking Instagram posts about her family members on a new episode of podcast The Run-Through With Vogue.

In the episode, posted on Tuesday (December 31), the entrepreneur addressed the habit just weeks after mistakenly liking a post about her son-in-law, Jay-Z, pertaining to accusations about him raping a 13-year-old girl alongside Diddy in 2000. In response earlier this month, Ms. Tina took to Instagram where she wrote that she was “hacked.”

Jay-Z has vehemently denied the allegations and distanced himself from the Bad Boy Entertainment founder, his attorney, Alex Spiro, stating that the music moguls have only known each other “professionally.”

Around the 22-minute mark of Ms. Tina’s Run-Through interview, she confessed to repeatedly liking “negative” posts about her children without ill intent.

“Because if I’m busy and I’m going through the thing, I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s Beyoncé with so and so.’ I like that,” she said. “And then the fans come back and say, ‘Miss Tina, please erase that because you’re liking some negative post.'”

Ms. Tina also mentioned having a Southern accent while using voice-to-text, which sometimes doesn’t accurately capture what she’s trying to say. Helping her out is Jay-Z, who recommended that his mother-in-law spell correctly.

“I know that it doesn’t understand what I’m saying, and it’s got crazy stuff,” she said. “And my son-in-law, Jay will say, ‘Listen, if you’re gonna read somebody, at least spell your words right. Don’t misspell your words, Ma. You can’t do that. Take your time and go over and spellcheck your stuff!'”

She continued, “I don’t have time for that.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Ms. Tina shared why she often speaks up on the behalf of her family, namely Beyoncé, when she’s trolled on social media.

“I’m a protector of my kids, and I just feel like that’s my job,” the Cécred vice chairperson explained. “And, you know, my kids are always like, ‘Mama, just ignore that.’ But it gets to the point where I’m just like, ‘I’m sorry. This is enough. It’s enough.’ You know? Because imagine being a mother and somebody’s lying on your kid. It’s hard to watch.”
