Tony Hawk Pens Emotional Note to Kurt Cobain, Wishes Nirvana Frontman Could Have Met Their Grandson

Tony Hawk wishes Kurt Cobain was still around.

The skateboarding legend took to his Instagram Story to lament the late Nirvana frontman’s death, which hits particularly hard now that Hawk’s son, Riley, and Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean, share a child.

Over the weekend, Hawk posted an image of a ticket stub from a 1991 Nirvana concert at The Vatican in Houston, Texas. He explained that he was in town for a skateboarding competition and attended the show directly from his event.

“It was as transformative as live music can possibly be,” he wrote, alongside the $10 ticket. “We all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.”

“I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild,” Hawk added.

Frances and Riley welcomed their son, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk in September 2024, almost a year after marrying in October 2023.

Frances is the only child of Kurt and Courtney Love. Cobain died by suicide in 1994 when he was 27 years old. Frances, who is now 32, was only 19 months old at the time.

Frances honored her father last April, on the 30th anniversary of his death.

“I wish I could’ve known my Dad. I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee, or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story,” she wrote. “I always wondered if he would’ve caught tadpoles with me during the muggy Washington summers, or if he smelled of Camel Lights & strawberry Nesquik (his favorites, I’ve been told).”
