Holy Island emergency operation
A lifeboat was launched to help paramedics reach an elderly person who was injured on Holy Island when the causeway was closed.
Seahouses All Weather Lifeboat was called at around 4.27pm on Sunday, April 28, to help the North East Ambulance Service after reports an elderly person had fallen and possibly suffered a broken hip.
The ambulance was directed to Seahouses Lifeboat Station, where the paramedic and equipment were put aboard the lifeboat, together with a Coastguard rescue officer.
The lifeboat launched and made best speed to Holy Island, where the local Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting to transport the paramedic to the casualty’s location.
The injured person was assessed and given medical assistance. It was decided that the casualty did not require to be evacuated by lifeboat on this occasion. The lifeboat was released and returned to station.
