So much for thr transfer window – now it’s all about Newcastle United’s huge game against Arsenal on Wednesday night. Eddie Howe’s men face the Gunners in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final in front of a packed St James’ Park this week, with a place at Wembley on the line.
United hold a two-goal lead, of course, after sealing a memorable 2-0 win at the Emirates last month, thanks for goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. However, Arsenal have hit top form in recent weeks, and come into the game on the back of 5-1 victory over champions Manchester City.
Newcastle will be looking to put Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Fulham firmly behind them, but Howe will have to assess midfielder Joelinton after the Brazilian picked up a knee injury. Sven Botman and Nick Pope will again push for a start, while Callum Wilson could return to the squad.
